Lodge Fellowship No. 140 GLI

It was in 1958 that Late Bro. Sakarlal N Shah conceived the idea of starting an additional lodge at Ahmedabad, and expressed the same to a few Brethren. At first it was proposed to open the lodge under the Irish constitution but owing to a few practical difficulties the lodge was consecrated on 04.03.1960 under the Scottish constitution as no. 1565 SC.Most of the members belonged either to Lodge Salem no. 563 SC or Lodge Hope & Sincerity No. 634 SC.

Major General H.H. The Nawab of Rampur who later on went on to became the first Grand Master of the Grand lodge of India visited Ahmedabad on 3 rd October 1958 and expressed his desire to become a founder member of the the then proposed lodge and was thus made a founder member.

History And Consecration Of Lodge Fellowship No. 140

In the city of Ahmedabad, there were two lodges both existing under the Scottish Constitution, viz, Lodge Salem No. 563 and Lodge Hope & Sincerity No. 634. As the city was expanding, some members evinced that there was great enthusiasm prevailing and they felt the necessity for a third Lodge so that the enthusiasm in the new entrants to the craft may not be jeopardised by not securing an accession to senior ranks in the craft. Just when this proposal was being considered, The Most Worshipful Grand Master of U.S.F.I.C. Most Wor. Bro. late Major Gen.H. H. Dr. Sir Syed Raza Ali Khan, the Nawab of Rampur, with the Grand Lodge office-bearers visited Ahmedabad for the Election Communication of Grand Lodge of United Scottish Freemasonary of India & Ceylon.

The enthusiasm displayed by the members and their keenness in pursuit of Masonic activities has helped the Lodge in getting the privilege of hosting the RGLWI meeting twice.
